A blog about business

So why blog about business? I guess that business in any form has always been one of my little passions, and on an obvious level probably because it is what I and probably you do everyday (not always very good) but hell that is what I try.

Each day at my day job at my Freelance projects everywhere it is all these business terms and personalities suits and tie's and I suppose I am getting to age where I probably need to pay more attention. So as I grew a bit wiser (Maybe just older) I decided to read some books and try get smarter (I first started just because they said it would improve my grammar and to spell better Wow I am still trying though)

So the epiphany I just had was to try and share with you what ever I learn in the process telling a story over in your own way makes it stick (Well that's whats always worked for me) so hopefully we both that's now you and me, can learn something this. I hope you will be kind enough to engage in this process as feedback is the ultimate beginning point to change. .I do sometimes feel that I have all these blogs and content and no real audience as the engagement is rather small. . .Perhaps this could be the beginning of something magical. .
OK So I don't want to write a thesis on business not yet maybe when I hit the old age and have trouble filling my days I might (I am not looking down on the old generation I just think they have better time management skills please understand me correctly. . .)

So Start this new direction for this blog I am busy working through this difficult MBA book (I find it difficult to make sense of it all the way) So bare with me if I start small. . .so that is the course I will be going (Just so you know I am not doing an MBA just reading and working through the books finance is not yet one of my strongest points. .)

So before I kick into the MBA Story let may start with a very striking little peace of information I got whilst listening to Larry Winget. . .and yes It resonated with me so well that I wrote it down on a piece of paper and stuck it to my wall for remembrance ( I will post a pic of it ) Its some points around running a good business and its relatively strait forward . . .( I will add some extra's in between as well)

Some pointers on running/doing good business. . .

• A deal is a deal stick to it!

Now that is some good advise there, how often do we freelancers miss deadlines, change costs etc that is not how it works a deal is a deal END a contract is a contract stick to it, and in the design and creative industry a DEADLINE is a DEADLINE)

Do what you said you're going to do the way you said you're going to do it!

I feel an unless burning in my left brain, but yeah it s what it is do what you said you'll do and by the time you said you'll do it always work in some extra time if you are not sure but this will make or break you trust me I've lost a few contracts on late delivery also communicate with your customer if you have a better way than previously discussed open it with them but make sure your side is always clean business is sorted !

Do the job right and do it the right way, don't take shortcuts

Well enough said there if you need to buy extra's buy it, always make sure you do above board business you don't want to be known as the quick fix quick fail business but rather as the go to guy to get it solved right!

Be the company people can count on!

yeah the previous point also touches on this part doesn't it be the go to guy or corporation teach this make it your vision be proud of it and make it your own. . .

• The Customer is King

Well isn't that true if your customer is not happy he wont pay, or worse he might tell everyone he knows about how bad the service was how bad the quality of workmanship was you never know always make sure you bring your best to deliver the best and make sure your customer is happy. . .

• Never tolerate poor performance

So true if you did a sloppy job do it over before you present it to the customer always perform your best that's what the customer expects don't you expect the same from your suppliers/Staff ?

• Do what you do best and you don't have to worry about your competition

OK in the tech business I suppose you have to worry about what new developments they bring out etc but if you focus on doing what you do best and staying the best you will be the one the competition is worried about always improve on every contract each job each piece of work make it stand out. .

Work on Mutual respect

My Mother always said (Sorry just had to use it as a cliche) you get out what you put in. . .

• Get more done with less in less time

Hard at best but that is the way to stay on top if you can punch out three times the amount of work in the same time as another corporation would push out one job whilst still adhering to the above rules you'll be the go to company in no time!

• Make sure your workplace is always clean, be efficient.

I have had customers visiting me at home in times of emergency and at the worst times and having a organised space helps boost their confidence in yourself your services and your outcomes. . .

• Always work faster better and cheaper, your solutions must work best

Well if not why would any one do business with you come on its semantics.

• Let your service/solutions/product be the problem solver

By working towards ensuring that you ensure you are always in front of the ques with the best technology your always on target and word of mouth would be very hard to stop when you have achieved this crucial phase trust me. . .

So as promised look at my copy of this (I will see if I cant make a nice graphical representation of it and post that next time round lets see. . )
